The 2005/06 season was Arsenal Football Club's 14th season in the Premier League and their 80th consecutive season in the top flight of English football. It was the final season in which home matches were played at the club's Highbury stadium after 93 years. Arsenal intended to move to its new 60,000 capacity Emirates Stadium in time for the start of the 2006/07 season.
Arsenal won their group to move into the knockout stage of the Champions League and progressed without conceding a goal against Real Madrid, Juventus, and Villarreal respectively. A crowd of 79,500 watched as Jens Lehmann was sent off early in the game. Despite this setback, Arsenal took the lead through Sol Campbell towards the end of the first half. However, Villarreal equalized in the second half, and the match finished 1–1.
In the Premier League, Arsenal finished fourth with 68 points, 12 points behind champions Chelsea. They also reached the final of the FA Cup, where they lost 2–1 to Liverpool.
