Chargers Select Brenden Rice in 7th Round of NFL Draft
Hall of Famer's Son Continues Legacy in Los Angeles
Former USC Receiver Lands with Chargers as 225th Overall Pick
The Los Angeles Chargers have selected former USC wide receiver Brenden Rice, the son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, with the 225th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Rice is the fifth pick of the seventh round for the Chargers.
Rice, who played three seasons for the Trojans, had a breakout season in 2023, catching 65 passes for 1,013 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation's top receiver.
The Chargers are hoping that Rice can provide them with some much-needed depth at the wide receiver position. The team lost veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen to free agency this offseason and is looking for someone to fill his role alongside Mike Williams.
Rice is a talented receiver with good size (6'3", 210 pounds) and athleticism. He has strong hands, runs good routes, and has the ability to make contested catches. He is also a willing blocker and can contribute on special teams.
The Chargers believe that Rice has the potential to be a productive NFL receiver. With his bloodlines and his talent, he has the opportunity to continue the legacy of his father in Los Angeles.
