Luka Doncic had a 20-point first quarter on his way to 36 points for his high this postseason and the Dallas Mavericks beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 105-100 on Tuesday night.
Doncic added 12 rebounds and 10 assists for his second triple-double of the playoffs. Jalen Brunson added 21 points for the Mavericks, who took a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference semifinals.
Karl-Anthony Towns had 29 points and 15 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who hosted their first home playoff game since 2018. D'Angelo Russell added 22 points, but it wasn't enough to prevent Minnesota from falling into a 2-0 hole in the series.
The Mavericks led by as many as 18 points in the second half, but the Timberwolves rallied to cut the deficit to 95-92 with 3:20 remaining. Doncic then hit a jumper and Brunson made a layup to push the lead back to seven points.
The Timberwolves had a chance to cut into the lead again in the final minute, but Russell missed a 3-pointer and Doncic grabbed the rebound to seal the win.
Game 6 of the series will be played in Dallas on Thursday night.
